As I drafted the pattern, I had Farrah Fawcett in mind. I chose an ivory herringbone with a slight sheen to it. I pretty much love everything about them, but obviously, the best part is that they have a wrap-around waist! I've always loved gathered skirts. I think it's because I grew up doing ballet and there was nothing more magical than a soft tutu, which is just layers and layers of gathered tulle that float up like heaven &nbsp;as you dance. Experiences like that change a girl forever.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Even though I love gathered skirts, a lot of times they just look really bulky. The first time I met her was at a church activity when I was fourteen and she was barely sixteen. We were asked to go around the room and name our talents. When I found this fabric at a thrift shop, it instantly reminded me of her. Fake eyelashes and substituting paint for mascara takes way too much time. I'd rather spend my morning eating pancakes and bacon instead of getting frustrated with eyeliner.<br /><br />Anyway, my most recent design is a mod-inspired dress. It has the traditional straight boxy shape with v-shaped insets in shades of grey. I wanted to do this dress, because I realized that I had seven bolts of grey fabric. I have pale dove grey, charcoal and every shade in between. Am I the luckiest girl or what?<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3gvBmQo6jY4/TxNYkNx65II/AAAAAAAACVE/4PQRisn7nnU/s1600/sixties1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="576" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3gvBmQo6jY4/TxNYkNx65II/AAAAAAAACVE/4PQRisn7nnU/s640/sixties1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QsB47sEo8S0/TxctRW-AqRI/AAAAAAAACXE/E9MLvEdJk9c/s1600/sixties7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QsB47sEo8S0/TxctRW-AqRI/AAAAAAAACXE/E9MLvEdJk9c/s640/sixties7.jpg" width="332" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4e7ROv-9Ti4/TxctQnbz00I/AAAAAAAACW8/A3Z7FG6IGN8/s1600/sixties6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4e7ROv-9Ti4/TxctQnbz00I/AAAAAAAACW8/A3Z7FG6IGN8/s400/sixties6.jpg" width="377" /></a></div><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iO3m_fg6_8E/TxNYkxD4RxI/AAAAAAAACVM/lknUp_xy4ME/s1600/sixties3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iO3m_fg6_8E/TxNYkxD4RxI/AAAAAAAACVM/lknUp_xy4ME/s640/sixties3.jpg" width="336" /></a></div><br class="Apple-interchange-newline" /><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7971059137255684308-4735848371646607367?l=www.thinkinginshapes.com' alt='' /></div>Lady Danburryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16850159089269703045noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7971059137255684308.post-91940965688932564712012-01-19T07:21:00.000-08:002012-01-19T07:21:29.919-08:00Illusion Dress<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Drew is responsible for naming this dress. It's a pretty big challenge for me. My hair hasn't been long enough to put into a ponytail since I was fourteen, and for the past four years, I've had a businessman's haircut.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>Where has my hair-growing endurance gotten me? Looking just like this guy's twin. Very unpleasant. I know.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-m7n5XRDlpPk/TxNJqiodlEI/AAAAAAAACUc/2ohxQwK5Dng/s1600/nocountry.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-m7n5XRDlpPk/TxNJqiodlEI/AAAAAAAACUc/2ohxQwK5Dng/s640/nocountry.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Thankfully I'm married to a great barber. I stopped by his shop and he gave me a Joan Jett-inspired haircut.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GgJa2MPO-Dk/TxNUNOaNqRI/AAAAAAAACUs/fBCX53spLzA/s1600/joan1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GgJa2MPO-Dk/TxNUNOaNqRI/AAAAAAAACUs/fBCX53spLzA/s400/joan1.jpg" width="395" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The length is still in between short and long, which is pretty much the worst. Either way though, I'd rather have a haircut like Joan Jett than the scariest guy of all time.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EStGXD_QcDc/TxNU_Iu3KwI/AAAAAAAACU0/b47oP8YlZXw/s1600/haircut.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EStGXD_QcDc/TxNU_Iu3KwI/AAAAAAAACU0/b47oP8YlZXw/s400/haircut.jpg" width="381" /></a></div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7971059137255684308-852081127073422389?l=www.thinkinginshapes.com' alt='' /></div>Lady Danburryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16850159089269703045noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7971059137255684308.post-21075214627331666732012-01-17T07:47:00.000-08:002012-01-17T07:48:18.956-08:00Play Dresses<br /><div>&nbsp;A few months after I opened my tailoring shop, I noticed two lovely little girls walking past my window. They would stop for a few minutes, and stare through the glass just watching me work. I would smile and wave, then they would run away.&nbsp;</div><div><br /></div><div>After about a week of this, I invited them in. I found out they were always around because their parents owned restaurants on the same block. (Different parents, different restaurants).&nbsp;</div><div><br /></div><div>They would stop in everyday after school to cut up scraps and to practice sewing on buttons. We started having girls' days. We'd go to art museums, see movies, go ice skating, and eat hamburgers. Even though I've sold my shop, and I don't see them every day anymore, we still get together at least once a month for a Girls' Day.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lT6LctSPZDc/TxIezKqNYnI/AAAAAAAACT0/SvqrMbX8OZ4/s1600/play3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="556" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lT6LctSPZDc/TxIezKqNYnI/AAAAAAAACT0/SvqrMbX8OZ4/s640/play3.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Sujeong and Jessie</span></td></tr></tbody></table><br />I had some great vintage knits, so I made them play dresses for spring. The special detail with this piece is the bias-cut midriff. The bias-cut allows the waist to stretch just slightly, so it's very comfortable. With the opposing direction of the stripes on the midriff, it makes any girl look like she's a perfect hourglass.&nbsp;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Also, I recently read a great article about the&nbsp;connotations&nbsp;of&nbsp;<a href="http://finalfashion.ca/red-dress-blue-dress/" target="_blank">red dresses and blue dresses</a>. In the golden era of lipstick, powder, and wearing a dress every day, Katharine Hepburn wore trousers. This attitude reminds me of my mother, and I think that's probably why I love it so much.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Cz0FlDmXwM4/Two5HTXm-6I/AAAAAAAACPc/BjJKUDE268I/s1600/katherine3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Cz0FlDmXwM4/Two5HTXm-6I/AAAAAAAACPc/BjJKUDE268I/s400/katherine3.jpg" width="266" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0bTL6flFL94/Two1mX6U0XI/AAAAAAAACOc/BAxaYQLqqFU/s1600/katherine1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0bTL6flFL94/Two1mX6U0XI/AAAAAAAACOc/BAxaYQLqqFU/s400/katherine1.jpg" width="298" /></a></div><br />I designed my trousers with a wide leg like Katharine's and a yoked waist, because I love details like that. I've never really had a favorite. As long as they run smoothly and they're very fast, then I'm happy. When I was growing up, I used my mom's Bernina. After high school, I got an apprenticeship with a tailor and we only used industrial machines. I became so accustomed to the speed of them, that I get bored and frustrated when I sew on plastic sewing machines. So, since I was eighteen, I've only used industrial sewing machines. &nbsp;My sister jokes that the number one requirement in a sewing machine for me, is that it has to be transported by a&nbsp;freight&nbsp;truck.<br /><br />Currently, I have five machines in my studio. Four of the five machines are vintage. Sometimes people ask me why I don't get new machines. There are two reasons. First, old machines are built so well. They have all metal parts, so they rarely have problems. Second, they are incredibly inexpensive and you can find them all over the place.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cu29y6i1ugk/TuztdkvIBzI/AAAAAAAABuM/0kDy8cYMkCg/s1600/machine.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="306" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cu29y6i1ugk/TuztdkvIBzI/AAAAAAAABuM/0kDy8cYMkCg/s400/machine.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="font-size: 13px;">Consew Tailor's Sewing Machine<br /><i>1971-79</i></td></tr></tbody></table><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This is my main sewing machine. When I got home, I decided I wanted a new dress to wear with it, so I designed this. I've always loved dresses with contrasting colors; they're just so interesting to look at. The bodice is made with charcoal cotton, and the skirt is a polyester-rayon blend which has a beautiful drape. My favorite details are the small collar, the bodice pin-tucks, and that the texture of the skirt looks like a sidewalk.&nbsp;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EXk3iHGkjHY/TwopwyRW28I/AAAAAAAACNM/AR1TomooTdw/s1600/concrete9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EXk3iHGkjHY/TwopwyRW28I/AAAAAAAACNM/AR1TomooTdw/s640/concrete9.jpg" width="294" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-u3Whxo380TY/TwopuS4-GcI/AAAAAAAACNE/Hta9Yzg4vi4/s1600/concrete8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-u3Whxo380TY/TwopuS4-GcI/AAAAAAAACNE/Hta9Yzg4vi4/s400/concrete8.jpg" width="191" /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-f3Sf9iGnEYU/TwoppWp_NxI/AAAAAAAACM0/5rv_og96bww/s1600/concrete6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-f3Sf9iGnEYU/TwoppWp_NxI/AAAAAAAACM0/5rv_og96bww/s400/concrete6.jpg" width="191" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2tO52wYTXio/TwopcrxCdRI/AAAAAAAACMM/uiwWBQQ5iE4/s1600/concrete1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2tO52wYTXio/TwopcrxCdRI/AAAAAAAACMM/uiwWBQQ5iE4/s640/concrete1.jpg" width="350" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JU9G6fBFQr4/TwopmjD2uAI/AAAAAAAACMs/JZx5dF_MlKA/s1600/concrete5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JU9G6fBFQr4/TwopmjD2uAI/AAAAAAAACMs/JZx5dF_MlKA/s640/concrete5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Also posted at <a href="http://www.sewcountrychick.com/" target="_blank">Sew Country Chick.</a></div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7971059137255684308-1371239332261697976?l=www.thinkinginshapes.com' alt='' /></div>Lady Danburryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16850159089269703045noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7971059137255684308.post-55321635458197972422012-01-10T08:16:00.000-08:002012-01-16T07:40:44.381-08:00Giveaway!<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #990000; font-size: large;">CLOSED</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">Want a pearl necklace?</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Surprise!&nbsp;</span>I have three more sets of vintage pearls! There was only one yard, so honestly, not enough for a wrapping blouse, but, I can be so tricky sometimes! (The caps sleeves really aren't cut like sleeves. They're just bias-cut half-ovals. The back is pieced. And I used plaid blue cotton for the facing.)<br /><br />You may be wondering why a grown-up girl would want to wear lions on her blouse. It's probably a really childish notion. I'm aware of this. It's why I designed this blouse with the gathering at the shoulders and the pleated wrap around front; It makes the print a little less recognizable. Can you see the lions?<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KW8MVmWH17o/TwovkA1I39I/AAAAAAAACOU/NcUyrt5HdeU/s1600/tiger5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KW8MVmWH17o/TwovkA1I39I/AAAAAAAACOU/NcUyrt5HdeU/s640/tiger5.jpg" width="442" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Zxps6DsVTbo/TwouyPolUMI/AAAAAAAACNc/3Q_pA2WAxo4/s1600/tiger1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Zxps6DsVTbo/TwouyPolUMI/AAAAAAAACNc/3Q_pA2WAxo4/s400/tiger1.jpg" width="192" /></a><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-G5qHixgytXA/Twou3XaUU5I/AAAAAAAACNs/uAJP9mozJVk/s1600/tiger3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-G5qHixgytXA/Twou3XaUU5I/AAAAAAAACNs/uAJP9mozJVk/s400/tiger3.jpg" width="192" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YRtF9_RGS8E/TwovBG6CD0I/AAAAAAAACOE/X-7QsOGrEZ0/s1600/tiger6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="444" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YRtF9_RGS8E/TwovBG6CD0I/AAAAAAAACOE/X-7QsOGrEZ0/s640/tiger6.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3s5NtpbXtis/TwsPxk92XrI/AAAAAAAACP0/pkrLRNUTeyA/s1600/tiger9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3s5NtpbXtis/TwsPxk92XrI/AAAAAAAACP0/pkrLRNUTeyA/s400/tiger9.jpg" width="356" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br class="Apple-interchange-newline" /><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7971059137255684308-5778040862090069169?l=www.thinkinginshapes.com' alt='' /></div>Lady Danburryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16850159089269703045noreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7971059137255684308.post-9809165175302540562012-01-07T08:27:00.001-08:002012-01-07T08:27:48.047-08:00Art Prize<br />When I was in high school I made art like it was my job. My wonderful parents let me turn the guest room into a studio. If I wasn't sleeping, I was drawing or painting. By the time I graduated, I had pretty much filled the room with artwork. When I moved out, my dad told me I needed to find a new home for all the art. I didn't want to move all of it with me, so I had a big party and I gave it all away. My friend Catey chose this piece.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U6qY51iLXiM/TvubLT5_wAI/AAAAAAAAB_o/VA9K05jqOAA/s1600/meanddrew.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U6qY51iLXiM/TvubLT5_wAI/AAAAAAAAB_o/VA9K05jqOAA/s640/meanddrew.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="font-size: 13px;"><i>Me and Drew</i><br />9 1/2" x 6 1/4"<br />Graphite on paper</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-V5zFSpjD5fQ/TvubNS535vI/AAAAAAAAB_w/Xv0vnUPBIBQ/s1600/meanddrew1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="312" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-V5zFSpjD5fQ/TvubNS535vI/AAAAAAAAB_w/Xv0vnUPBIBQ/s640/meanddrew1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I drew this picture when I was seventeen. She loves swimming, being outside, tattoos, art, and her family. Charlotte made me fall in love with awesome movies like&nbsp;<i>Fast and the Furious</i>&nbsp;(all 5 of them),&nbsp;<i>Dirty</i>&nbsp;<i>Dancing: Havana Nights</i>,&nbsp;<i>Step Up</i>&nbsp;(all 3) and probably a lot more I'm forgetting. She probably has more fun than anyone else I know.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Charlotte's dress was inspired by these cute vintage flats I found for her. I love the open square neckline and the radiating pleats at the waist.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-I4SwnPZi5mg/Tv40ehHFfPI/AAAAAAAACCk/4BYeDAl9unA/s1600/yellow3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="353" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-I4SwnPZi5mg/Tv40ehHFfPI/AAAAAAAACCk/4BYeDAl9unA/s400/yellow3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mCGPR_61-zs/TwTWFVkQXUI/AAAAAAAACIQ/EfpyxuVsnss/s1600/charlotte.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="432" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mCGPR_61-zs/TwTWFVkQXUI/AAAAAAAACIQ/EfpyxuVsnss/s640/charlotte.jpg" width="640" /></a><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ww3DwT-PgIM/TwTT3YNTc3I/AAAAAAAACHk/UA8CUcZmQsc/s1600/charlotte4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ww3DwT-PgIM/TwTT3YNTc3I/AAAAAAAACHk/UA8CUcZmQsc/s640/charlotte4.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-a0fw0qj_IyU/TwTXWqksMMI/AAAAAAAACIk/VmGYmAfCkcA/s1600/charlotte6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-a0fw0qj_IyU/TwTXWqksMMI/AAAAAAAACIk/VmGYmAfCkcA/s400/charlotte6.jpg" width="211" /></a><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-drn1lQUBR8Q/TwTXbOKJbkI/AAAAAAAACIs/dtgNBYR3W2A/s1600/charlotte7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-drn1lQUBR8Q/TwTXbOKJbkI/AAAAAAAACIs/dtgNBYR3W2A/s400/charlotte7.jpg" width="226" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-agrLUeMJmz8/TwTTzBwyDxI/AAAAAAAACHc/AJSdQM-Tr1U/s1600/charlotte3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-agrLUeMJmz8/TwTTzBwyDxI/AAAAAAAACHc/AJSdQM-Tr1U/s640/charlotte3.jpg" width="425" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XhkJaNoud8Y/TwTXwN3FqFI/AAAAAAAACI4/zNcrPVFFoCU/s1600/charlotte5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XhkJaNoud8Y/TwTXwN3FqFI/AAAAAAAACI4/zNcrPVFFoCU/s640/charlotte5.jpg" width="460" /></a></div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7971059137255684308-8961791101195180497?l=www.thinkinginshapes.com' alt='' /></div>Lady Danburryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16850159089269703045noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7971059137255684308.post-43542444933220026432012-01-05T08:24:00.001-08:002012-01-05T08:25:00.419-08:00Beard + Lederhosen<br /><div style="text-align: center;">&nbsp;<i style="font-size: x-large;"><a href="http://mattrainwaters.com/" target="_blank">Beard</a></i><span style="font-size: large;">&nbsp;was published this year, and my husband is in it.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It is a collection of portraits from the World Beard Championship in 2009.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cXYEs6nD5Kw/TwTQzBjAzpI/AAAAAAAACGM/cx3IdjaLLrw/s1600/beard.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="371" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cXYEs6nD5Kw/TwTQzBjAzpI/AAAAAAAACGM/cx3IdjaLLrw/s400/beard.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pn61UTvSGW4/TwTQ1_B9rmI/AAAAAAAACGU/g8u3vClkRkU/s1600/beard1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="371" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pn61UTvSGW4/TwTQ1_B9rmI/AAAAAAAACGU/g8u3vClkRkU/s400/beard1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Drew was a competitor in this unusual championship. So, for the past two weeks, most of my art supplies have been spread out on the dining room table. After I've finished cooking dinner, I draw while I wait for Drew to come home from work. I've been able to finish four birds in small five minute drawing sessions. I did them with ink and chalk.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Yb2gYmNKABc/TvTN2qAAmgI/AAAAAAAAB1M/KUx2ge5oq-Y/s1600/birds1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Yb2gYmNKABc/TvTN2qAAmgI/AAAAAAAAB1M/KUx2ge5oq-Y/s640/birds1.jpg" width="470" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iJZmNV_1pBE/TvTN5ExwwuI/AAAAAAAAB1U/FyKgAFkllCA/s1600/birds2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="474" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iJZmNV_1pBE/TvTN5ExwwuI/AAAAAAAAB1U/FyKgAFkllCA/s640/birds2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gGznlvnVJAo/TvuaF4U6L-I/AAAAAAAAB_c/3fhWX3g7k28/s1600/birdp.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gGznlvnVJAo/TvuaF4U6L-I/AAAAAAAAB_c/3fhWX3g7k28/s640/birdp.jpg" width="470" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rVfs16vSJBA/TvTN9RssEOI/AAAAAAAAB1k/9qBmMUprDdU/s1600/birds4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="464" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rVfs16vSJBA/TvTN9RssEOI/AAAAAAAAB1k/9qBmMUprDdU/s640/birds4.jpg" width="640" /></a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7971059137255684308-3887118904190786788?l=www.thinkinginshapes.com' alt='' /></div>Lady Danburryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16850159089269703045noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7971059137255684308.post-92043237927338351882012-01-03T08:23:00.001-08:002012-01-06T09:58:08.333-08:00Happy New Year Giveaway!<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #990000; font-size: large;">CLOSED</span></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><b><span style="font-size: x-large;">Today I'm giving away a pair of vintage shoes!</span></b><br /><b><span style="font-size: x-large;"><br /></span></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><b>I have a new side project.</b></span></div><div style="text-align: center;">It is called&nbsp;<a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/houseofdanburry" target="_blank">House of Danburry.</a>&nbsp;It is a vintage shoe shop and I'm very excited about it.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><b><br /></b></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-i9MFTzNCqzg/Tv0DMCKwnvI/AAAAAAAACAU/w9udf3xtik0/s1600/etsybutton-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="367" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-i9MFTzNCqzg/Tv0DMCKwnvI/AAAAAAAACAU/w9udf3xtik0/s400/etsybutton-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><b><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><b><span style="font-size: x-large;">To enter to win:</span></b></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">1. And I'm surprised how much I love it.The fabric is so light-weight, it's making me excited for spring clothes. After I had it finished, the geometric lines reminded me of Egyptian art. So, here it is, the Egypt Blouse.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-egizbZha5jo/TwDLW-S9lII/AAAAAAAACEs/RxO-0GPKmio/s1600/egypt1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-egizbZha5jo/TwDLW-S9lII/AAAAAAAACEs/RxO-0GPKmio/s400/egypt1.jpg" width="186" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SaWLkk_qoV0/TwDFrXCqHOI/AAAAAAAACDg/MTJzLfAtDyo/s1600/egypt6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SaWLkk_qoV0/TwDFrXCqHOI/AAAAAAAACDg/MTJzLfAtDyo/s400/egypt6.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AzE8r1d5_DY/TwDFl8ladtI/AAAAAAAACDA/3oRrMUDgZt4/s1600/egypt2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AzE8r1d5_DY/TwDFl8ladtI/AAAAAAAACDA/3oRrMUDgZt4/s400/egypt2.jpg" width="196" /></a><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_rk2xKb5Qf4/TwDJGE1A5zI/AAAAAAAACEU/vEF60wNMG7I/s1600/egypt10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_rk2xKb5Qf4/TwDJGE1A5zI/AAAAAAAACEU/vEF60wNMG7I/s400/egypt10.jpg" width="187" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-C2UzMbUA1uU/TwDHOuIIKYI/AAAAAAAACD8/pyzh0663Omw/s1600/egypt8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-C2UzMbUA1uU/TwDHOuIIKYI/AAAAAAAACD8/pyzh0663Omw/s640/egypt8.jpg" width="322" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Also posted at <a href="http://www.sewcountrychick.com/" target="_blank">Sew Country Chick.</a></div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7971059137255684308-5609193763317772330?l=www.thinkinginshapes.com' alt='' /></div>Lady Danburryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16850159089269703045noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7971059137255684308.post-85623468393841544432011-12-31T08:16:00.000-08:002011-12-31T08:16:15.240-08:00Dress for Meggy<br />This is Meggy. And she is my best friend. We met when we were sixteen, because she lived in the same neighborhood as my first boyfriend.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-texbHtU4hXE/TvpGD5wt1pI/AAAAAAAAB44/nh1S3LRMM_0/s1600/meggy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-texbHtU4hXE/TvpGD5wt1pI/AAAAAAAAB44/nh1S3LRMM_0/s400/meggy.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><br />My favorite things about Meggy:<br /><ul><li><b>She is totally loyal.&nbsp;</b>Meggy is the friend that shows up to my party an hour early to make sure the oranges are sliced and that I have enough time to get dressed.</li><li><b>She has the best appetite.&nbsp;</b>No one ever expects this out of her because she's just so tiny. I've seen her win eating contests when she was competing against male football players on steroids. She's amazing.</li><li><b>She's as smart as a whip.&nbsp;</b>She is fluent in Spanish and she has read every book you have read.</li><li><b>She doesn't mind that I don't text message.&nbsp;</b>I'm pretty sure this annoys most of my friends, but Meggy doesn't care. She just calls.</li><li><b>She loves my family.&nbsp;</b>When my whole family gets together it is incredibly loud and it can get crazy. She always sticks around and just laughs with me.&nbsp;</li></ul><div>I designed this dress for Meggy. It all started with the&nbsp;<a href="/2011/12/color_magic.html" target="_blank">shoes</a>. They reminded me of the movie&nbsp;<i>Meet Me In Saint Louis</i>, so while I was trying to think of a design for Meggy, I watched it. I was really inspired by the corsets, pleated skirts, and puffy sleeves.&nbsp;</div><div>The bodice of Meggy's dress is made with small box pleats that create an illusion of a corset. The box pleats also give the skirt its fullness.<br /><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PRnvmYX5clE/Tvp5ru8CuOI/AAAAAAAAB9o/p5ZQDVINPH4/s1600/meggy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PRnvmYX5clE/Tvp5ru8CuOI/AAAAAAAAB9o/p5ZQDVINPH4/s640/meggy.jpg" width="582" /></a></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OVxIy5ekVSg/TvpN-tTSRyI/AAAAAAAAB7I/pSPUtDqP5vQ/s1600/meggy5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OVxIy5ekVSg/TvpN-tTSRyI/AAAAAAAAB7I/pSPUtDqP5vQ/s640/meggy5.jpg" width="622" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7j0ovhCxuVI/TvpODeJGSmI/AAAAAAAAB7Q/foqXlCbqlI4/s1600/meggy6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="435" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7j0ovhCxuVI/TvpODeJGSmI/AAAAAAAAB7Q/foqXlCbqlI4/s640/meggy6.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br class="Apple-interchange-newline" /><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7971059137255684308-8562346839384154443?l=www.thinkinginshapes.com' alt='' /></div>Lady Danburryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16850159089269703045noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7971059137255684308.post-19062430361124096182011-12-30T08:25:00.000-08:002012-01-01T09:22:59.032-08:00Black and Blue Dress<br />I designed the &nbsp;Black and Blue Dress, then made it from a vintage polyester blend, because I loved the way it draped.
