Art Prize

When I was in high school I made art like it was my job. My wonderful parents let me turn the guest room into a studio. If I wasn't sleeping, I was drawing or painting. By the time I graduated, I had pretty much filled the room with artwork. When I moved out, my dad told me I needed to find a new home for all the art. I didn't want to move all of it with me, so I had a big party and I gave it all away. My friend Catey chose this piece.

Me and Drew
9 1/2" x 6 1/4"
Graphite on paper

I drew this picture when I was seventeen. Drew was on the road playing music, and I was writing him love letters and mailing them to wherever he was scheduled to play a show.

Anyway, Catey saved the drawing because she was sure I would want it later. She dropped it by and I was so excited to see it! I've been in love with Drew since middle school, we've been married for almost four years now, and I feel like I'm falling in love all over again.

This is so sweet! I didn't know you were in love with him since then! I would love to know how you met him!

That is possibly the sweetest thing I've heard in a long time. You were so fortunate to have the opportunity with your parents to turn that spare room into a studio. It was amazingly generous to give away what you couldn't or didn't want to take with you. How lovely for you and your husband to have this memento of that time come back to you.
