Baby Clothes!

I've never really been interested in children's clothing. But my sister and her kids (who I just adore) have been staying at our house for the past few weeks and they have opened my eyes to the joys of making a kid look cute. I recently found a pile of vintage tweed scraps that I thought I  had thrown out a long time ago. I was so excited to find them, because they worked perfectly for my new project. If you like these, they are available here.

Date Dress

Last weekend, Drew called me and told me to meet him in the city at 6:00 because we were going on a date. It was only ten in the morning, so I decided to make a surprise dress for the surprise date. So, I had a great new dress to wear and a delicious dinner to eat, two of my favorite things.

Denim Trousers for Jessica

My sister Jessica  is brilliant. We've always gotten along very well, but we're different in so many ways, a lot of people are quite surprised when they find out we're sisters.  In high school, she took (and passed) every AP course the school offered and entered college as a junior. I signed up for every art class and just did massive projects all year. She married a doctor. I married a musician/barber. She's blonde. I'm dark brown. One thing that is the same about both of us, is that our legs are much longer than average. Jess wanted a nice pair of denim trousers, so I made her these. She was really happy about them.

Halloween Costume for Meggy

My best friend Meggy wanted to be Miss Frizzle from the magic school bus for Halloween. She is a school teacher, so I think it was a good choice.

The Dream Studio

After selling my shop, all I had left was my vintage fabric and button collection. For my birthday, my husband got me new sewing machines, and my mom built the most perfect fabric storage shelves, a cutting table, a pressing table, and a smaller table for my blind hemmer (when it arrives). When I left my shop, I thought I'd never find another setup that was as good. Lucky for me, I have the most brilliant mom of all time who fulfilled all my studio dreams. So, I will tell you all the things I LOVE about this new studio of mine:

  1. A lot of natural light from the big windows.
  2. The cutting and pressing tables are 42" tall!
  3. I don't have to unload an entire cupboard to find a piece of fabric, because it is stored on bolts.
  4. My new machines are so much quieter than my old ones.
  5. The studio is on the main floor, so I can work on house chores simultaneously if needed.
  6. Best of all, it was all built by my mom. Since I'll be spending so much time in this new studio, I'll never be able to forget how much she loves me.
Thank you Mom! Thank you Drew! It was the best birthday ever!

Autumn Dress for Ellie

I made a summer reversible dress for my niece Ellie. She looked so great in it I made an autumn one for her as well. Her brilliant mother dyed the navy blue tights for her.

Bat Costume for Sujeong

This year for Halloween my best friend Sujeong made a long list of things she'd like to be for Halloween. When we realized I had all the supplies to be a pretty great bat, she decided that's what she would be. The costume is just a full-body unitard with the wings attached in the side and sleeve seams. She likes the costume, but she is especially excited to wear black nail polish, lipstick, and eyeliner.

Fall Party Invitations

I've been wanting to see a lot of friends lately, and now that I'm finished working, I've planned to host a party at my house. Here are the invitations. I love all the gold. I think it is the best autumn color.

Autumn is absolutely my favorite season. It includes my birthday, Halloween, new clothes, good food, but best of all...The Harvest. When I was a kid we would usually plant about a quarter acre of pumpkins and we would sell them from the front porch which guaranteed me and each of my siblings about $50.00 after each cut was made. Also included in this glorious harvest was raspberry jam, peaches, green beans, apple pie filling, and the most popular, grape juice. This year was very fortunate for me because I've been able to participate in everything. I don't even know how to describe the feeling. It's like coming home after a long time and seeing your mom and feeling like she knows how to do everything. It's like falling in love with your true love. It's like knowing you're on the right path in your life. The harvest just makes me feel like a real person. It is so beautiful.
